I was born in Greensboro, N.C.
I graduated SE Guilford High in 1980. I graduated UNC in 1984 (Business Finance). I have always done odd jobs since I was a young boy. I worked construction jobs during the summers from high school through college. I loved building things. I started my first business in high school - "Smith & Harris: Do It All." After college, I checked into working the banking business but found out the pay was terrible. I got a job at a local alarm company. I did the sales and installations of low voltage systems for homes and business - alarms, intercoms, pa systems, access & camera systems, etc. - to help with $$. In 1986, a friend, Mike Lee, and myself decided to start our own business - Improvements & Accessories. We concentrated on the sales Vacuum & Intercom systems, Cable & Sound wiring, and remodeling. My main focus was the new residential market. I had really good success, but I got bored and wanted to do more after several years. In the early 1990's, I started doing ceramic tile work. Laid a lot of tile over the years. I built my first house in 1992 for my family. I have added these skills to the ones I already used and changed my business to what it is today. I am currently working on remodels vs. new construction, extinct. Geez, I'm from N.C., what happened to the new home market? Around 2000, I got to be a dealer with Brandom Cabinets, a cabinet company out of Texas. I enjoy the design work and layouts for kitchen and bath cabinets. I have built another house for my parents since that started. I have also done garages, remodeling garages, porches. decks, interior trim, and so much more. I hope some of my pictures will let you know the scope of my work. My office is located in my home. This saves on overhead since I am my own secretary and don't have to rent office space. These savings are passed on to my customers in my pricing. It would be nice to have a showroom, but business would have to be great. I'm doing this website myself in hopes of creating that extra business. Maybe I can get into building web pages too, lol. I am involved in all my jobs. I do the work in all phases and make sure it is done right . I have a few helpers for anything I can't handle by myself. My helpers have 20+ years experience each in the construction industry. I am very picky about my work. I want all my jobs to be and look the best. Sometimes financial restraints from my customers won't allow this, but I will make the best of what I have to work with. A lot of my work comes from referrals and repeat business. If you can't do it yourself, I'll be glad to do it for you. I will be glad to furnish free estimates for your needs. I will travel practically anywhere for the right project.
